Giorgio Armani From Sketch to Star, Naomi Watts in Fair Game and The Modern Power Suit

Heightened Reality: The Giorgio Armani film fashions echo the real life Armani wardrobe of Valerie Plame Wilson

Giorgio Armani is no stranger to dressing strong woman both as leading ladies and in real life.

What’s interesting this time is that Armani’s collaboration with with costume designer Cindy Evans on select wardrobe looks for the Naomi Watts character, Valerie Plame Wilson in the film, “Fair Game” is based on reality.

“Giorgio Armani’s clothes are modern and feminine, always making me look my best and confident. This became even more important when I found myself, reluctantly, placed in the public eye,” says Plame Wilson.

Couldn’t think of a better wardrobe to “scoot” around in…

Secrets from Christina Aquilera’s Burlesque Makeup Artist

You’ve seen the clips and gushed over pictures from the premiere, but if you’re like us, you still haven’t gotten your Burlesque fix. And while the movie doesn’t hit theaters until November 24th, our exclusive interview with Christina Aquilera’s personal makeup artist Kristofer Buckle is a satisfying hold-me-over. “Christina, who plays Ali Rose, transforms so much in the film that I tried to keep certain color palettes consistent throughout,” Buckle told us. “The audience needs something to hold onto, so you’ll see a lot of pinks and corals, but just at different intensity levels.”

“This is Ali Rose’s off-stage look. I wanted Christina to look like a girl from Iowa, but one who reads magazines and has done her homework. The key to this look is her shiny coral blush. It gives her an air of vulnerability. Normally Christina really plays up her brows, but I wanted them to be light and secondary, so I filled them with Anastasia Perfect Brow Pencil in Ash Blond.”

“I made these fake eyelashes from scratch inspired by an old Man Ray photograph. When I first showed [director] Steven Antin, he was like, ‘I don’t know…’ I went into Christina’s trailer and was like, ‘Okay, put these on and let’s go sell these things!’ I had her lip sync and everything for Steven. Needless to say, he was convinced!”

“I had to conceal all of Christina’s tattoos. In dance numbers like this, with all that movement and sweating, I was on constant tattoo patrol. I’ve learned the hard way in this business to always use waterproof everything.” For even more, check out the just-published book Burlesque: The Motion Picture!

Padma Lakshmi’s Spring Collection Is a Little Bit Tribal, a Little Bit Cher

Among the disposable excess of actress-designers, singer-perfumers, and reality-TV-memoirists vying for media coverage, Padma Lakshmi — the enterprising foodie-designer-author-actress-entrepreneur — has truly earned her slashes. The luminous Top Chef host originally launched her eponymous jewelry line in May 2009, pooling money from a Pantene endorsement and hiring on her best friend. Though she juggles Top Chef filming, writing, mothering (baby Krishna is nine months old), and managing Easy Exotic (her own culinary company, which produces spices, teas, and salts), she remains resolutely hands-on with her pet start-up. “We’re not a trendy company. We don’t use anything artificial or costume, whether it’s something humble like sterling silver or precious sapphires,” she says. “And I’ll never make a piece of jewelry that I don’t want to wear myself.”

This winter is poised to be a typically busy one for Lakshmi. Season eight of Top Chef premieres on December 1 — the series’s first all-star season — and the finale will be shot early next year. She previewed her spring 2011 Padma jewelry collection last week. And this month she’s starting work on her third book, a memoir exploring her relationship with food. We caught up with Lakshmi to talk Top Chef, Parisian romance, and her enviable closet.

Haute Chocolate

Arguably chocolate is one of the most desired treats among women. Few indulge, however, out of fear that it will go straight to their hips. Last Wednesday, the tables were turned as women hoped that the sweet confection would stay firmly on their hips, thighs and midsections—at the Chocolate Fashion Show. Dreamt up by Sylvie Douce and Francois Jeantet, the sweet runway show kicked off the 13th Annual Chocolate Show, a four-day spectacle which once again filled the streets of New York with the delicious smell of chocolate. Over 50 chocolatiers from all around the world, including famous chocolate veterans Jacques Torres, Francois Payard and Johnny Iuzzini of Jean-Georges and Bravo’s Top Chef: Just Desserts, exhibited their finest treats.

Decked to the nines in truffles and white chocolate pearls, models carefully sauntered down the runway to reveal the latest in culinary couture. Hosted by George Duran of TLC’s The Ultimate Cake Off, the show featured a bevy of famous faces from the fashion and culinary worlds alike. Billed as the most delicious show of the year, the offerings by these teams of designers and pastry chefs did not disappoint.

The event supported the Clean Ocean Action, an organization that aims to improve the water quality off the New York and New Jersey coasts. With nature as the main theme of the night, these designers had the hard job of “going green” and representing Mother Earth with chocolate. Zac Young from Top Chef: Just Desserts teamed up with designer Nicole Romano to create an outfit made entirely of bon-bons dusted with edible glitter.

One of the edible dresses was designed entirely by pastry chefs and worn not by a model but by a woman who has climbed Mt. Everest. Complete with wings and a 20-pound chocolate shell headpiece, Michael Plosky and Martin Howard dubbed their fifth chocolate couture creation Queen of The Sun. Kevin Christiana of Project Runway fame stated that one of the hardest things about designing with chocolate is that, unlike fabric, it melts; but the designers who participated succeeded magnificently.

Paris Hilton’s Upcoming Swimwear Range

Paris Hilton has already tried designing and some of her projects were rather successful. Her latest venture is a swimwear range she has been working for a while. We haven’t heard anything about the collection yet but a few pictures have already leaked the Internet. And it’s Paris herself who promotes the upcoming range.

One of the swimsuits Paris has posed in resembles the sexy red piece Pamela Anderson became famous for. Paris’s version isn’t as provocative but looks glamorous.

Another item from Paris Hilton’s swimwear collection must have been inspired by an American flag. The socialite accessorized the bikini look with Sixties-style white-rimmed sunglasses and an oversized bag from her own collection.

Paris also modeled a black and white striped swimsuit which revealed a lot of her cleavage.

Paris Hilton’s first swimwear range is to hit the stores next year.
