A new designer for Balmain

Just three weeks after Balmain announced that it was parting ways with Christophe Decarnin, its creative director of five years, comes the news that fellow Frenchman Olivier Rousteing is taking over.

It has been confirmed that Rousteing will supervise the design and development of the brand’s men’s and women’s ready-to-wear collections. Since joining the luxury label – which is famous for creating ripped jeans that cost upwards of £1000 – in 2009, Rousteing had been in charge of the womenswear studio.

Raised in Bordeaux, Rousteing completed his fashion studies at the École Supérieure des Arts et Techniques de la Mode (ESMOD) in Paris in 2003. He then spent five years at Roberto Cavalli, where he designed both the women’s and men’s ranges.

Rousteing’s debut for Balmain will take place during Paris Fashion Week this coming October, with a collection for spring/summer 2012. He told WWD how he wanted to ensure that the label, which was founded by Pierre Balmain in 1945, “always remains one of the leading brands that others look to as a reference”.

Christophe Decarnin was notably absent from his last catwalk show for the house in Paris. Balmain’s chief executive officer Alain Hivelin told press at the time that he was “too tired” to take a bow after the show, which led to unconfirmed reports that Decarnin was suffering from depression and that he did not share the same view as the CEO in regards to the future of the label.

Whether Rousteing continues with the same sexy, rock’n’roll vision that his predecessor’s success was built upon remains to be seen, but one thing we’re sure will stand is those ultra-expensive price tags and perhaps a whole new wave of ‘Balmania’ along the way.

Beyonce’s fabulous fashion comeback

Hello, who is this hot honey blonde we see? Why, it’s only Beyonce! Despite the odd appearance at a basketball game, Beyonce’s largely steered clear of the spotlight for some time, but we for one are super pleased to see she’s back and looking better than ever.

Showing off her newly blonde locks, she left restaurant L’Avenue at the Meurice Hotel in Paris with husband Jay-Z last week looking utterly fabulous.

We love her sexy draped printed dress complete with waist cinching black sash and matching crock handbag. She chose gold sandals that perfectly complimented her honey coloured skin and the metallic flashes in the dress – and, of course, no celeb outfit is complete with the obligatory pair of sunglasses.

And judging by the size of that rock on her left hand, things are still go swimmingly with her hunky hubby. Good to have you back, B!

The Perfect Pants Suit for Haute Look – Spring-Summer 2011

Pant suits rule and how! The spring summer 2011 collections from leading houses like Paul&Joe, Elie Saab, Salvatore Ferragamo and Gucci have all showcased minimalist pant suits for women in their collections.

Beautiful tailored suits that flatter the feminine figure dominated the ramp this season.  These suits flatter all figures and bestow the illusion of perfect silhouettes to women who wear them.

Pant suits are not just in vogue but very comfortable to wear too. Pair them with a pair of high heels and they spell style and elegance.

Pant suits can be used for formal wear in office and also when you want to dazzle your date for the evening.

Pant suits are fast becoming the vanishing line between male and female attire. This certainly does not mean that the suits are bulky or straight fits. They are cut subtly to flatter the feminine figure.

Pant suits follow the minimalist forms and yet are a pleasing sight for the sore eyes. It is the attire that emphasizes the best in a figure and is yet very comfortable to spend the entire day in.

Pant suits come in staid formal colors and cuts, but you can equally easily find yourself a flamboyant pant suit in bold colors that define your personality.

Combine with formal shirts and blouses during the day to get that no-nonsense-entertained look and with halters and off-shoulders in the evening to leave your date complete mesmerized with your cool attitude.

Add chic to a pant suit with the use of well chosen jackets and blazers. Get inspired by the latest collections from top houses. They all feature pant suits in its various avatars.

Flaunt your feminine attitude with this “male attire” that has been tailored with finesse to spell “For Women” with panache. Pant suits are the ideal choice for the women on the go and for those who want to keep their company spell bound too.

Pleats – The Feminine Classic Revival

Pleats are here to stay. The spring-summer 2011 collections are using pleats in all its different forms and in combination. Pleats are expected to make a comeback and not just in skirts or dresses but soon trousers (both men’s and women’s) too will be flashing pleats.

Pleats are being used in dresses and skirts of all lengths, be it mini, midi or maxi. Pleats are also being used in tops and blouses. The leading designers and designer houses have come up with some great designs incorporating the pleats.

Chloe, Lanvin, Miu Miu J. Mendel, Derek Lam, Nina Ricci, Ohne Titel, Bensoni, Jonathan Saunders and Erdem have all used pleats with panache to create stylish outfits that have included skirts, dresses, blouses, tops and even full length gowns.

The designers have used both knife pleats and sunray pleats in their creations. Single pleats facing the same direction are known as knife pleats and knife pleats that start out small but become larger as they fall down are known as the sunray or sunburst pleats.

Pleats add volume, thus they should be used with care. They are generally used to balance broad shoulders, so if you have problem areas think twice before using pleats.

The last thing one needs is highlighting a heavy waist or bottom. On the other hand if you have narrow waists and broad shoulders, pleats will do a great job of balancing the body proportions.

Pleated skirts can be combined with tights or long socks, jackets, boots or heels. When combined with jackets and boots they look very chic and similar outfits can be picked up from, Rachel Roy, Richard Nicoll, Jill Stuart and Tommy Hilfiger.

Designers have used sheers and light fabric for their spring creation. As the pleats proved to be a steady presence all through this year, 2011 winter collections may use heavier drapes. Combining the outfits appropriately with winter accessories will make them suitable for winter wear.
