Red Carpet Trend: Thigh High Slits | The Fashion Spot

It may be getting colder outside, but it hasn’t stopped celebrities from wearing thigh-high slit dresses on the red carpet. The key to this revealing trend, is to keep the rest of the look sophisticated. Several stars have been mastering the dramatic cut while promoting their latest projects.

Pristine in winter white angora, The Tourist star Angelina Jolie kept warm in Atelier Versace. That incredibly high slit, along with the plunging neckline, may have made it hard to fight off the chill, but luckily she had Brad Pitt at her side to heat things up!  Even while co-hosting the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize Concert, Golden Globe nominee Anne Hathaway rocked a significant slit. If her J. Mendel gown is any indication, audiences can expect to see a little skin when she co-hosts the upcoming Academy Awards.

Victoria Beckham wore one of her own creations at the British Fashion Awards in London. The gathered front and subtle embroidery is quite glamorous. Singer Carrie Underwood sported the slit at FOX’s 1st annual American Country Awards in Las Vegas. The former American Idol champ had everyone seeing red on that red carpet when she wore a Georges Chakra dress.

The extreme slits popped up as early as this fall. Country Strong actress Gwyneth Paltrow came to the CMA Awards in a sparkling one-shoulder, tie-dye Atelier Versace number. She repeated the thigh-high trend in a lacy Peter Dundas for Emilio Pucci gown at the film’s recent Los Angeles premiere. Selena Gomez managed to look age appropriate despite her leggy display when she hit the red carpet at the MTV Music Video Awards back in September. Her silver Reem Acra dress with fitted bodice made just enough of a statement.
