Velvet Loosens Up This Fall

We love how velvet is easing up this fall and venturing into more casual territory. Easy velvet pieces add a bit of texture and polish to your look without looking fussy or dressy. There are so many options, and whether you choose some of our favorites or go it alone, make sure your vibe remains cool and effortless. Colorful Juicy Couture velvet snap bracelets ($48 each at Bloomingdales) are perfect with this season’s fun reinterpretations of the classic sweatshirt. An oversized velvet tote in rich burgundy like this Prada version ($1,020 at Neiman Marcus) is perfect for daytime paired with this season’s chunky knits.  Opening Ceremony’s lace-up boots ($795 at Neiman Marcus) make a statement; they are shown here in teal but are coming soon in caramel, fuschia, and black.

They would be perfect paired with skinny black jeans and a blazer thrown over a simple tee or menswear-inspired button-down. Velvet blazers are a great option, and look especially current when they incorporate military details.  erinkleinberg’s brown version ($369 at Saks)is perfectly drapey and slouchy and rhinestone-encrusted  epaulets provide additional flair. Elizabeth and James’ tough military-inspired double-breasted version ($435 at Nordstrom) looks positively soft, feminine, and easy in muted crinkled velvet. And for those who prefer to follow trends more quietly, pick up a pair of velvet leggings or skinny jeans (in black, brown, grey or olive) like this pair by Alice and Olivia ($154 at Saks)as a nice change-up from ho-hum corduroys.  Happy shopping!
