A Look at Resort 2011: Reed Krakoff

One glance at this look from Reed Krakoff’s resort collection, a pale buttery short leather dress that Krakoff calls a football jersey, and you can see that his vision of what the brand bearing his name should be is shaping up nicely. There is a thematic thread from fall—athletic, utilitarian, functional—but rendered with a lighter, easier hand. That was intentional. The outerwear that was such a big part of fall is here, too, like a perfect and perfectly plain trench, but Krakoff has now scaled the proportions back so it lies closer to the body.

“I wanted to continue the attitude of the last collection,” Krakoff said, “but make it a little more polished and refined. Resort should be wearable, yet luxurious too.” Oh yes, the L-word. It’s always great when an arch pragmatist like Krakoff decides to indulge a little, because what you end up getting is something deliciously useful. On that list we could add any of the accessories: a new flat graphic sandal, a zippered pouch that looks like the most understated clutch ever, or his Boxer bag, now turned inside out and looking just as good when it’s reversed.
