Is It Time For The Word “Fashionista” To Be Retired?

Here at STF, we tend to call a style-obsessed trendoid, clotheshorse kind of girl a “Slave to Fashion,” for obvious reasons. For the rest of the world, the term “fashionista” seems to get the job done, but now that we’re entering a new decade, is it finally time to retire the word for good?

The New York Times seems to think so. They’ve compiled a list of the most “Worn-Out Fashion Terms,” and among them is “fashionista,” which they deem to be as outdated as Victoria Beckham’s 2007 getup pictured above. “The word has gone from describing a class of urban style-conscientious sophisticates to becoming a lazy and cheap by word for anyone with a modicum of taste. Oprah Winfrey Wears Victoria Beckham’s Dress

Judging by the way it goes Victoria Beckham’s dream to dress Michelle Obama might soon come true. To a dozen celebrities who had already been spotted wearing her designs Ms Oprah Winfrey herself joined.

Oprah wore one of Victoria’s creations from Fall/ Winter 2010/ 2011 collection to Maria Shriver’s Women’s Conference in Long Beach, California yesterday. While the television host was honored with the Minerva Award, which pays tribute to women ‘who serve on the front-lines of humanity’, Victoria Beckham enjoyed seeing her design worn by such a successful person.

Oprah looked fabulous in a nude toned dress. Victoria’s designer goals have been achieved. She once said she wanted her fashion line to be a celebration of womanly curves.

She said: “I want to celebrate woman’s curves. I love a woman’s body and I want to make women look and feel fantastic.”

Victoria Beckham’s dresses have been worn by plenty of A-list celebrities, including Sarah Jesscia Parker, Jennifer Lopez, Elle McPherson, Nicole Scherzinger, Jessica Simpson and others.
