DIY Net Bag

After crushing hard on this vintage net bag spotted by Phil Oh on the streets of NYC, we knew we had to attempt to DIY it. Sprucing up a reusable cotton bag from the grocery store with some hardware and carabiners? Sign us up! In just a few simple steps, we’ll show you how to make our rendition of the net bag – perfect for a stroll in the park.

Supplies List

a cotton net bag (also available at Whole Foods)

2  carabiners (if you can’t find gold carabiners, you can spray paint them)

8 sets of 1/4″ screw posts

a flat head screwdriver

a pair of scissors

Start by cutting each of the straps down the middle, creating 4 loose straps. With a marker, mark 2 dots on each strap about 3 inches apart.

Carefully pierce a small hole through each mark with the tip of the scissors. Fold one of the straps through the carabiner, aligning the two holes with each other.

Push the screw post set through both holes and tighten with a screwdriver.

Add another set of screw posts about an inch of the way down for more support. Repeat the steps for the rest of the 3 straps.

Your bag is finished! You can also experiment with dying the bag a different color before assembling.

Attach keys, charms or pom poms to one of the carabiners and you’re all set!

The Secrets to Beauty Icon Jerry

With luscious blonde hair, clear blue eyes and legs forever, Texan model Jerry Hall, 54, is a true beauty icon.

Jerry Hall moved to Paris as a teenager and appeared on over 40 magazine covers by age 21. A worldwide Vogue favourite, she shot with Norman Parkinson for British Vogue and Patrick Demarchelier for Paris Vogue, a feat that would make any model green with envy. She may be best known however as one of Helmut Newton’s favourites and as Mrs Mick Jagger. Her friendship with Andy Warhol, apartment sharing with Grace Jones and romances with rock stars Bryan Ferry and The Rolling Stones frontman are the stuff of legends.

A campaign expert (Hall was the face of Yves Saint Laurent’s Opium, Revlon and Versace, to name a few), she made a comeback in 2009 and was shot by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel. Great genes, dazzling hair, minimal makeup and lots of sunscreen (she’s currently the face of Invisible Zinc with her daughter, Vogue Australia covergirl Georgia May), are the secrets of this beauty icon’s success.

We talk to Rosie Hardy of Sydney’s Colour Lounge for top tips for gorgeous Jerry locks.

Your Best Beach Look Ever

Nothing says summer like a LBB (little black bikini)- however with so many options add a little color into your classic summer look.  Rock a bold pattern or add some ruffles for a sweet feminine look. A great cover up can really help pull together that fun beachy vibe.  Aim for something light and breezy.  Not only will you be more comfortable but you’ll look carefree and relaxed.

However, one thing can really ruin an amazing summer look and that’s those little red irritation bumps.  A sexy smooth bikini line is the ultimate complement to a stunning bikini. With 75% of women tending to that area, it’s becoming a beauty hot spot.  Keep your skin soft and smooth and prevent irritation with Bikini Zone Anti-Bump Shave Gel and Medicated After Shave Gel.

Curvy is sexy: this is the message

“Curvy is sexy: this is the message.” So sayeth Franca Sozzani, the editor-in-chief of Vogue Italia and one of the people behind the magazine’s June 2011 plus sized photo shoot.

While we didn’t wish to sensationalise the subject matter, Ms. Sozzani has naturally been willing to give her own take on the topic. While we’d maintain that ‘curvy is sexy’ can be misconstrued as a divisive point (it can be, but sexual attraction is in the eye of the beholder), both ours and Ms. Sozzani’s take on the issue at large are rather similar: that there is room in pictorials for different body sizes provided editors are willing to cater to them.

The Summer Maxi Dress to Fall in Love with

The sun is shining, the sky is blue – yes, summer is here. It is time to get rid of the jeans and tops, and switch to something that is more feminine and more appropriate for this season – for example the maxi dress.

This particular fashion design is best known for the fact that it is very long and feminine and also very popular among women.

It is said that the perfect length for the dress is for it to partially cover your feet, so it is time to give up the short dresses and opt for the long ones. The advantage of maxi dress is that it might be worn to a large number of different occasions.

It is perfect for the everyday wear, but also for a girls’ night out and even special events. Naturally it is important to choose the right style in each case.

There are the monochromatic long dresses most suitable for the elegant events especially if they are accessorized properly. This season the designers focused on adding a bit of bling for summer maxi dress for the evening.

The maxi dresses that come in bright colors and also some prints are great for almost any other kind of occasion. The most popular designs seem to include the flower patterns. In order to have a summery look it is important for the dress to have bright colors.

The colors we can see on the maxi dresses cover a wide range, including fresh pastels, white, neutral colors, green, blue, orange, and naturally we have to mention, black.

The look of the dress is also defined by the material that it is made of. For example in case of a black silk maxi dress it is just natural that it will be worn to a special event of some kind. Other materials include cotton, tulle, lace and in some cases, even satin.

There is no need for many accessories, and the best shoes to wear are the flats, platforms and feminine strappy sandals.

White Jeans and the Summer Breeze Trend 2011

This summer, the one thing that you definitely need in your wardrobe is a pair of white jeans. White jeans can be teamed with a wide range of tops, cardigans, jackets and other accessories to give you completely different looks each time.

And you are bound to look chic and stylish every time you decide to wear the white jeans.

This summer the staple white jeans come in a wide range of styles. From tight fits to parallels, from full lengths to three fourths and everything in between, there is so much to choose from.

You can own one of these eclectic things or maybe a couple of them and you are set for almost all occasions.

You can wear them to the office with printed sheer blouses or with satin embroidered tops to the beach. They can be teamed with floral blouses and short jackets for a casual look or with halter tops for that special date or girls’ night out.

You can combine them with a red t-shirt with an anchor and blue and white striped jacket in a perfectly stylish way to flaunt the nautical look.

The white jeans can be easily paired with tube dresses to give you that extra edge when you want to show off your attitude.

They also give you the advantage of being able to pair it with most colors, so you can pick almost any top, blouse, t-shirt or cardigan and not have to think what to wear it with.

The white jeans can look very formal and elegant for office and other formal occasions and they can look casual, dressy and sassy for a party, date or just hanging out.

They can be teamed with stilettos, flats, wedges, sandals, sneakers… in short with any style of footwear, making it a very versatile choice.

Gwen Stefani Looks Incredible and Feels Proud of It (Gwen Stefani Covers Elle May 2011)

Gwen Stefani who looks incredibly good both on pictures and in real life says she feels very proud of her appearance. In the interview for Elle May 2011 she said: ”I’m very vain. That would be my middle name. Of course I am, you know what I mean? I love the visual.”

Gwen Stefani covers the Elle ‘Women in Music’ issue wearing a stylish stretch wool dress from Givenchy collection. There are a few other photos of the 41-year-old singer and fashion designer in the edition. My favorite is the one with Gwen sporting a black-and-white dress.

Gwen Stefani also shared about her family achievement: ”The first time we ever kissed was right around Valentine’s Day. We were in New Orleans on tour. So, yeah, I always think about that because it’s unbelievable that we’ve been able to stay together. I feel so proud of us. It’s one of my biggest achievements.”

Gwen Stefani is sometimes compared with Lady Gaga and Katy Perry in terms of style but the singer says they don’t have anything in common and insists she isn’t after sex-symbol thing as the girls are: ”I don’t see myself in those girls. I usually put pants on. I see these girls as more going for the sex-symbol thing. I was more, in the band, like a tomboy. Of course, I think every girl is sexy, so there’s going to be a little of that. But I see a lot of younger artists going more toward the sexy thing.”
