Curvy is sexy: this is the message

“Curvy is sexy: this is the message.” So sayeth Franca Sozzani, the editor-in-chief of Vogue Italia and one of the people behind the magazine’s June 2011 plus sized photo shoot.

While we didn’t wish to sensationalise the subject matter, Ms. Sozzani has naturally been willing to give her own take on the topic. While we’d maintain that ‘curvy is sexy’ can be misconstrued as a divisive point (it can be, but sexual attraction is in the eye of the beholder), both ours and Ms. Sozzani’s take on the issue at large are rather similar: that there is room in pictorials for different body sizes provided editors are willing to cater to them.

Rihanna DRESSED for Cosmopolitan July 2011 Cover

Rihanna loves demonstrating her body whenever she goes and whatever she does. The more revealing the clothing the better. So, I’m quite surprised to see her all dressed for the new Cosmopolitan cover (July 2011 issue). The Bajan beauty wears a modest patterned top and neon pink pants. A number of bangles and a pair of earrings finish the summery look.

Inside the July 2011 edition of Cosmopolitan Magazine Rihanna is featured in a long striped gown posing seductively on a bed.

Although we don’t have any highlights from the interview with Rihanna yet I’m more than sure she will talk sex again. It’s her most favorite topic. Waiting for juicy details!

THE ASIAN ISSUE – Love her or hate her, Lady Gaga is back on the cover of V Magazine #71. She’s barely recognizable styled by her friend and collaborator Nicola Formichetti, under the lens of Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin .

Gwen Stefani Looks Incredible and Feels Proud of It (Gwen Stefani Covers Elle May 2011)

Gwen Stefani who looks incredibly good both on pictures and in real life says she feels very proud of her appearance. In the interview for Elle May 2011 she said: ”I’m very vain. That would be my middle name. Of course I am, you know what I mean? I love the visual.”

Gwen Stefani covers the Elle ‘Women in Music’ issue wearing a stylish stretch wool dress from Givenchy collection. There are a few other photos of the 41-year-old singer and fashion designer in the edition. My favorite is the one with Gwen sporting a black-and-white dress.

Gwen Stefani also shared about her family achievement: ”The first time we ever kissed was right around Valentine’s Day. We were in New Orleans on tour. So, yeah, I always think about that because it’s unbelievable that we’ve been able to stay together. I feel so proud of us. It’s one of my biggest achievements.”

Gwen Stefani is sometimes compared with Lady Gaga and Katy Perry in terms of style but the singer says they don’t have anything in common and insists she isn’t after sex-symbol thing as the girls are: ”I don’t see myself in those girls. I usually put pants on. I see these girls as more going for the sex-symbol thing. I was more, in the band, like a tomboy. Of course, I think every girl is sexy, so there’s going to be a little of that. But I see a lot of younger artists going more toward the sexy thing.”

With the arguably less provocative and more mass-minded Emmanuelle Alt at the helm of Vogue Paris (meanwhile, Carine’s busy doing her own thing), it’s no surprise that her first cover would feature the most vanilla of fashion memes—the completely inoffensive Gisele Bundchen wearing a white dress in a frickin’ field.

Italian Vogue’s Latest All-Black Spread: ‘The Black Allure’

Perhaps Italian Vogue is at the forefront of the all-one-race trend that’s been proliferating in magazines since it put out the now iconic all-black issue for July of 2008. This month’s Italian Vogue features another all-black editorial, “The Black Allure,” shot by British photographer Emma Summerton and styled by Edward Enninful. The spread includes some of today’s top models of color, like Joan Smalls, Jourdan Dunn, Arlenis Sosa, and Chanel Iman. American Vogue, which recently ran an all-Asian spread, hinted in a recent blog post that it had an all-black spread in the works, featuring rising star models Ajak Deng and Anais Mali. It’s difficult to say whether these pages are gimmicks or actual steps towards fashion becoming more inclusive. Until time hopefully answers that question, we hope magazines continue to embrace all kinds of faces — and bodies, for that matter.

Doutzen Kroes dark & seductive for Numero > Fashion Photo Shoots

Since Doutzen Kroes has been putting all her time into (and earning all her fortune from) Victoria’s Secret, we haven’t seen very much of her in the pages of magazines. Finding her way back out into the world of print pictorials for Numero Tokyo’s May 2010 issue, we’re faced with a shoot that’s all black and darkly sexy. It’s nothing new – but with leather and elements of bondage, it does show a side of Doutzen we rarely get to see.
