Shoes Say Volumes About Your Personality

People say clothes count for first impressions. They really do, because each person has his own style which reflects his or her personality. But can shoes say volumes about their owner? According to psychologists they can. Shoes show your fashion sense, status, neatness, attention you pay to details, etc…

Kathryn Beker’s space odyssey

It didn’t take me long to discover that Kathryn Beker is a girl after my own heart. In fact you could pinpoint it down to the moment where, in discussions about her transparent raincoats for Mimco, she forwarded me the clip from Blade Runner where Zhora pounds the dystopian city pavements in her thigh-high boots and clear plastic mac, only to be mercilessly shot down by Harrison Ford’s Deckard. Her second collection for 2011 takes the title COSMOS and, closet geeks unite, the sci-fi inspirations are again immediately apparent. This time it’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, and how Kubrick “as an image maker, influenced other artists and designers at the time”, Kathryn tells us when we steal a few moments of her time for an interview.

Specifically the colour palette was loosely based on Kubrick’s famed piece of cinematic work, like Beker’s red dress which took inspiration from “the space station with all those futuristic red chairs and their cut outs”; while some of the collection’s cuts have a weightless feel that gives the impression of being suspended in zero gravity. Beker’s billowing trapeze maxis are the perfect example of this. While most maxidresses you’ll find on shelf in 2011 are slimmer in cut, these take on a new shape – yet no femininity is lost. “I’ve done them in such light-weight silks so that when the wind catches them a woman’s silhouette is revealed underneath,” Beker explains.

Beyonce’s fabulous fashion comeback

Hello, who is this hot honey blonde we see? Why, it’s only Beyonce! Despite the odd appearance at a basketball game, Beyonce’s largely steered clear of the spotlight for some time, but we for one are super pleased to see she’s back and looking better than ever.

Showing off her newly blonde locks, she left restaurant L’Avenue at the Meurice Hotel in Paris with husband Jay-Z last week looking utterly fabulous.

We love her sexy draped printed dress complete with waist cinching black sash and matching crock handbag. She chose gold sandals that perfectly complimented her honey coloured skin and the metallic flashes in the dress – and, of course, no celeb outfit is complete with the obligatory pair of sunglasses.

And judging by the size of that rock on her left hand, things are still go swimmingly with her hunky hubby. Good to have you back, B!

Angelina Jolie Signed Deal with Louis Vuitton

Angelina Jolie hasn’t done many fashion campaigns throughout her life. As far as we know she has represented clothing line St. John for 3 years and the Japanese beauty company Shiseido for a while. However, these two are relatively small deals in comparison to Jolie’s new venture – she’s become the face of Louis Vuitton.

The worldwide ad campaign is to be print only and will be marketed around the world. The campaign that is to launch in summer will earn Angelina Jolie approximately $10 million.

The photographs will be taken by renowned photographer Annie Leibowitz within the next couple of weeks.

Angeline Jolie will follow in the footsteps of other celebrities, including Madonna and Jennifer Lopez.

Pant suits can be used for formal wear in office and also when you want to dazzle your date for the evening.

Combine with formal shirts and blouses during the day to get that no-nonsense-entertained look and with halters and off-shoulders in the evening to leave your date complete mesmerized with your cool attitude.

How to Choose Shining Clothing

Every season designers create shiny clothing because even if such items are not very trendy they are still perfect for special occasions. Women like sparkling pieces but are often unaware of how to choose those to look good rather than vulgar.

Shiny item as an advantage.

Shiny items tend to attract attention. No matter if it is a tiny brooch or a glitzy blouse people will look at it before they notice all the other. This gives you a number of advantages. By focusing on a sparkling piece that you accentuate your asset with, you distract attention from the areas you don’t want to show. So, if you have a thin waist try a glitzy belt. If you like how your legs look opt for a pair of shiny pants. If your goal is to hide your heavy thighs go for a shiny top or just a sparkling scarf as an accessory.

Don’t overdo.

Be careful not to overdo with shiny clothing as you can end up looking tasteless. The rule is simple: the shinier the item the less you should emphasize it. You can wear sparking things during daytime but beware of making people’s eyes tired of your attire.

Shiny clothing is no-no for plump girls.

Shiny clothing makes a woman look bigger but it looks great on slim girls. If you know your weight isn’t ideal but glitzy pieces are your weak point try to use shiny details.

The simpler the better.

By wearing a glitzy item you already attract too much attention to you. The fabric itself does it all. So, if you wish to look harmonious stay away from elaborate designs.

Combination rules to follow.

Shiny with shiny is not a good idea. Go for matt clothing piece to combine with the glitzy one you like. Besides, avoid wearing accessories as well if you want to be elegant. Don’t overload your look. Even your makeup and hair should be natural.

Shiny dress for a special occasion.

Long shiny dress is great for an evening out, even if it is too shiny. But beware of getting all attention at the party where you are not the main person. It can be too uncomfortable.

The bare accessories

With no clothing to detract from the scene, Vogue Spain’s April 2011 accessories editorial leaves handbags, shoes, and jewellery as the starring items. In one image Patrycja Walczak wears little but a studded leather belt purse, an accessory we’ve seen more on the streets than we have in the pages of magazines.

Jewelry Designer Ippolita: a tFS Exclusive Interview

Halle Berry, Reese Witherspoon, Carrie Underwood, Kate Hudson, and Minnie Driver are just some of the celebrities who wear Ippolita on the red carpet and in their daily lives. Designed by Ippolita who grew up in Italy with an artist father, the designer went on to earn her Baccalaureate in sculpture at the Istituto D’Arte in Florence, which has greatly influenced her aesthetic. Ippolita’s 18 karat gold collection, based around a sculpted bangle, hoop earring, and ring, was launched at Bergdorf Goodman in 1999 and is still one of the brand’s bestsellers today.

Lucky for me, my favorite pieces from the designer’s collection are her resin ones, part of a lower priced collection she launched recently. However, whether a piece is made from 18 karat gold or resin, everything in the collection is made by hand, accounting for the line’s not always easy-on-the-wallet prices.

We spoke to the designer about memorable career landmarks, her favorite creations, advice for aspiring designers, and more.
