Vancouver: Rocaille’s jewellery goes for baroque

For some people, money talks. But for Vancouver’s Amanda He, it wasn’t enough. After leaving a career as an investment banker for her true passion, design, she launched Rocaille (rocaille-design.com), a collection of sparkly necklaces and bracelets that are perfect as holiday dress accoutrements or, of course, gifts. He named her line after the opulent, romantic rococo style that originated in 18th century Europe and the logo, two seahorses comes from the designer’s favourite piece of jewellery, a 1950s seahorse brooch she found in Portland. Rocaille’s one-of-a-kind pieces are part art deco, part modern drama, part playful and fun—and perfect for a winter fête.

Canadian shoe designer creates Tron-inspired sandal

Quebec-born shoe designer Jerome C. Rousseau (jeromecrousseau.com), whose celeb fans include Charlize Theron, Cameron Diaz, Kristen Stewart and French indie actress Roxane Mesquida (star of the designer’s new campaign), was tapped by Disney to create a shoe to celebrate the launch of Tron Legacy, which opens December 17. It was a fortuitous opportunity–Rosseau loved the look of the original Tron as a teenager. The shoe, a metallic leather sandal that’s available in pewter or gold, were available at the Tron Legacy pop-up shop in L.A., which also featured specially-created bags from Brooklyn-based accesssories label Hayden-Harnett. You’ll be able to pick up these shiny beauties at specialty boutiques worldwide come February.

20 Model Red Carpet Moments of 2010

2010 Has been a year to shine for models on the red carpet: Heidi Klum graced the red carpet at the Emmy Awards in a scandalously short dress by Marchesa earlier this year, while we’ve also seen some of our favourite catwalk models grab the spotlight too: Chanel Iman cemented her style icon status when she showed in a slinky gold lamé jumpsuit for the 2010 MET ball, while Natasha Poly showed us how crisp white is done while attending a Givenchy hosted MoMA party. Dior Spring Beauty Makeup Collection 2011

Spring makeup lines are hitting beauty counters right now, and Dior’s offering of makeup is their usual girly fest chock full of goodies to gander at. The beauty collection is dominated with shades of dark to light grey, but made flirty with touches of peach and the usual baby pinks seen in their lipglosses and lipsticks, as well as a few eye-shadow shades which effectively balance out this darker colour and make the collection more Summer inspired.

The colours on show are inspired by Christian Dior’s childhood spent in a small town in Normandy – the palettes show the shades that Mr. Dior himself associated with his early years. This classic, glamorous idea is also conveyed in the usual Dior blue packaging em-blazed with the unforgettable CD logo, accompanied with that signature dark blue colour and the embossed quilted look which adorns some of the lipglosses and lipsticks. Topshop Spring/Summer 2011 Lookbook

With flowing hemlines, bountiful layers and bohemian inspired prints, Topshop’s Spring/Summer 2011 lookbook is sharp, modern and clearly catwalk inspired. Taking their que from designs by the likes of Proenza Schouler and Rodarte, the designs are split in to two halves: bright, hippy inspired pieces and sleek, crisp minimalism. The colourful outfits contain multiple layers, embroidery and girlish florals all pepped up in lavender shades and bright Summery oranges and pink.

The more minimalist looks play with unusual hemlines, clean tailoring and smart structures, made punchy with towering leather heels, woven brogues and a touch of citrus orange (one model even shows off blueberry-coloured streaks in her hair). The lookbook is on top of two of the biggest Spring/Summer trends: it appeals to the those of us who favour a stark, bold minimalist approach, and those who wish to spend their Summer frolicing in 70′s inspired loose layers.

Who Wore it Best? Jennifer Lopez vs. Kim Kardashian

Singer Jennifer Lopez and reality star Kim Kardashian were both seen wearing the same figure-hugging dress by Herve Leger by Max Azria, and both girls even added a pair of similar heels by Christian Louboutin, but who wore it best?

Jennifer wore the dress to a Boys & Girls Club of America event in November. She added towering nude heels to the look, as well as loose hair and gold earrings.

Kim was seen in the same dress while out for dinner in Milan. Kim opted for a darker pair of heels in a patent finish, teamed with a leopard print clutch and a curled hairdo.
