Anna Sui in London for new book signing

What did The Supermodels’, Kate Moss, Naomi Campell, Christy Turlington and Linda Evangelista look like as budding models nearly two decades ago?

A new book, which celebrates the career of New York’s ‘pirate queen of boho chic’, the designer, Anna, Sui, reveals all – and is a walk down memory lane for all with a fascination for ‘The Supers’ and eclectic style with a rock ‘n’ roll edge.

Kate Moss poses as a ‘Calamity Jane’ with attitude, in a suede bikini-top, thonged jeans and feathered hat, from an early editorial shoot. Naomi Campbell, Cristy Turlington and Linda Evangelista take to the catwalk as ‘Babydoll Brides’ for Anna Sui’s summer 1994 catwalk show. And Naomi is seen, way back in 1991, giving her famous over-the-shoulder, sultry pout, on the catwalk, in a black PVC biker jacket and checked micro-kilt.

What We’re Wearing: Christene’s Ode To Leopard And Stripes

Christene Barberich, Executive Editor

What I’m wearing: Vintage navy wool blazer from Mafalda in Brooklyn, Rachel Antonoff trousers, Band of Outsiders striped T-shirt, pearls (a gift from my mom), a pair of vintage oxblood oxfords, and my good ole leopard tote from Topshop.

My beauty look du jour: Lip service. I should probably put more effort into my beauty routine, but I find that a good bold lip (Julie Hewett’s my favorite) and some mascara does the trick. Or at least I’ve deluded myself into believing this…

What’s on my iTunes: The War On Drugs, Fever Ray, Foals, Tamaryn (this song “Love Fade” kills me), Junip, and the Asteroid No. 4…I listen to them every morning on the way to work.

What’s on my to-do list: Finally find my mother the perfect Christmas gift (I am ever hopeful), figure out an organizational magic trick in the entryway of our apartment, find the perfect vintage leopard coat, foster another dog (soon!), give thanks, be calm, try not to have an anxiety attack over silly things.

Week eight: Saturday night

Week eight was rock week in the X Factor studio, so both Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue rocked out a suitably show-stopping look. But which was your favourite?

Cheryl flashed her pins in an embellished one-sleeve Emilio Pucci dress, which she paired with matching golden heels, a chunky ring and her glossy new shorter brunette locks.

Dannii meanwhile was a veritable scarlet woman in her second beautiful Carla Zampatti gown of the series. Nude Sergio Rossi pumps, Annoushka droplet earrings and a Heidi-plait updo completed the look.

How To Twist Your Hair Into A Quick, But Chic Bun

Create a tight, low braid, wrap it into a bun, and secure it with bobby pins at the nape of your neck.

Hint: A spritz of hair spray on each pin will keep them from slipping.

Add an embellished barrette at the side of your head for extra oomph.

How to Apply False Lashes

Ok, ladies, let’s discuss falsies. No, we’re not talking about expanding bra sizes to hefty double Ds, we’re talking lashes. False eyelashes, when applied correctly, can transform a look by really making your eyes pop. Sure, you get those 5-inch, save-it-for-Halloween type lashes, but the ones we’re talking about are subtle and add the most incredible, natural looking volume to your peepers. However, far too many of us wonder: how do you put the darn things on?

We decided to tackle this dilemma, once and for all. Check out our steps on how to apply false lashes, so you don’t have to deal with glue in your eye or lashes that look more like whiskers along your temples ever again.

Step 1: Apply all your eye makeup, except for mascara and curl your lashes. Note: do not trim the lashes shorter before you apply them. Snipping them will make them look short and blunt and frankly, a lot faker than you’d like them too. If you’re not sure if the lashes you’re buying are the right length for you, ask a sales assistant to help you.

Step 2: Wipe a small streak of the glue that comes with the lashes on the back of your hand. Pick up the strip as close to the base as possible with tweezers, not at the tip of the lashes (this could cause them to bend) and run the base of the eyelash along the glue, making sure it’s not too goopy. Let it dry for about ten seconds, so the glue gets tacky.

Step 3: Tilt your chin upwards facing a mirror, and position the lash strip in the center of your eye, as close to the lash line as possible. As soon as the glue sticks, push down on the lashes on the inner and outer corners of your eye, and hold them there for 30 seconds.

Step 4: Let the lashes dry for about five minutes and then apply liquid eyeliner over the base of the lash strip, just to hide any excess glue. If you feel like the lashes need to blend better with your natural lashes you can apply a thin layer of mascara. But be warmed: mascara can clump the lashes together, so if you insist of using some, be sure it’s not a thickening mascara.

Faux Fur Collars Add a Feminine Touch to the Military Trend

From loosely laced combat boots to skinny olive green cargos, military-inspired fashion is one trend that continues to reinvent itself every season.

But recreating a military look means more than digging through the racks at your local Salvation Army, hoping you’ll score an authentic coat or camouflaged pants. As winter approaches, it’s time to put a feminine twist on the muted palette of black, brown, and olive green military-inspired wool coats. A lush faux fur collar is the perfect way to add a feminine touch to this trend, especially as the weather grows colder.

For those skeptical about faux-fur, remember that most collars are detachable, so if you’re feeling ultra chic or the night has grown chillier than expected, you can trade your scarf for the warmth of faux fur. If you want to add something different to the drone of winter dressing, a faux fur collar adds both sass and class to the simplicity of a plain coat.
