Julianne Moore – Transformation

Julianne Moore knows a thing or two about change. The former military brat moved 23 times during her childhood days, and as an adult she has played everything from a porn star (Boogie Nights) to an FBI agent (Hannibal). The Kids Are All Right lead so easily morphs into different roles, she’s been honored with four Oscar nominations. No wonder going from a blunt bob to messy curls to long and sleek is no big deal. What passes her tress test? “No matter which role she’s playing, her look is always very graceful and timeless,” explains hairstylist John Sahag. “She is more about being genuine than being trendy.” Makeup artist Scott Barnes agrees. “She stays true to herself while keeping her look very modern. Whatever you do with her, whether the look is girl next door or total vamp, it works. She is a great chameleon.”

1995

The Nine Months added side-swept bangs to her auburn locks and accented her baby blues with smoky liner.

1998

She sported a sleek bob and starred in The Big Lebowski.

2004

Back to a shiny, straight mane, Moore attended the GLAAD Media Awards.

2008

Returning to red, she framed her face with a layered cut.

2010

Who says redheads can’t wear red? For the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, she complemented her locks with a crimson dress and matching lipstick.

Would You Wear… Patterned Trousers?

Trousers are rarely thought of as a popular summer style, but after major fashion houses such as Derek Lam, Miu Miu, and Balenciaga introduced them in their Resort collections this season, fashionistas everywhere have been spotted rocking them. Even celebs like Katy Perry and Keira Knightley have worn the trend in various patterns.

So, what to think of this trend? On the plus side, patterned trousers provide a fresh update to a conventional workwear piece – they’re a fun take on something traditional. Also, they could easily be worn with a cute top for a fun day outfit if you’re going – say – shopping or out to lunch with friends.

The problem with patterned trousers, however, is that they can easily become overwhelming. It’s not hard for these trousers to be too colorful or too busy and make you look as if you’re swimming in your outfit. They could also potentially be mistaken for pajama pants if worn with baggy clothes, but this could be solved with a classy pair of heels and jewelry.

Who wore Mulberry best? Olivia Palermo vs Kelis

Two fashionistas, and two variations on one gorgeous ruffled design – Olivia Palermo and Kelis love Mulberry’s Swan styling.

Olivia and Kelis both attended the Glastonbury: Another Stage book launch party in New York back in May, in two different versions of the same Mullbery Autumn/Winter 2010 look.

While Olivia opted for the high-waisted ruffled Swan skirt, Kelis opted to don the Swan dress, which also includes statement ruffled shoulders.

The City starlet Olivia teamed her textured skirt with a nude top and decorative brooch detailing, black Mulberry studded heels and a matching Mulberry Lily bag.

Meanwhile, Kelis rocked up in the darling dress, which she teamed with gold jewels, nude shoe-boots and a Statue of Liberty-inspired headpiece.

Celebrities wearing Victoria Beckham’s designs

The ‘banded minidress’ from Victoria Beckham’s spring/summer 2010 collection has proved a resounding hit with A-listers on the red carpet. Most recently, Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger (left) stepped out in the design when making an appearance as a judge at the X Factor auditions in Manchester. American actresses Jennifer Hudson (centre) and Blake Lively also couldn’t resist the peplum creation, with its quirky, three-quarter-length sleeves.

Denim Jeans From Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s The Row

Before the advent of skinnies, “boyfriends,” and stretch boot-cut denim, jeans were a simple affair. And now, it seems, the pendulum is swinging back toward the classic: Straight-legged styles, with a casual, not constricting fit, look right again. Leave it to designers-slash-fashion icons Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen of The Row to turn out a must-have pair. Made in L.A., their selvedge jeans are expertly faded, with just the slightest slouch—like your favorite old 501s, but cut for women. Would you expect anything else from the sisters behind all those perfect T-shirts?

Daria Does “Gypset”

If you haven’t been living down under, you may not recognize the name Oroton, the Aussie label that’s been going strong since 1938. But that may change soon, thanks to a very recognizable face: Daria Werbowy. The brand has signed Daria to front its Spring ‘10 campaign, inspired by the jet-setting, boho lifestyle—a.k.a. the “gypset.” Personally, we’d say the glamorous Werbowy’s more jet than gyp, but we imagine the super’s diehard fans will be too smitten with her new shots to care.

Glorious Emeralds and Guitar Picks: Ça C’est Louis Vuitton Fine Jewelry

When it comes to Lorenz Bäumer, engineering’s loss was fine jewelry’s gain. Bäumer has been the artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s haute joaillerie since last fall, when he debuted his L’Ame du Voyage collection. The Franco-German son of a diplomatic family—“I guess all the traveling links me to the spirit of Vuitton,” he says—had planned to build cars, but somewhere along the way he veered off into making costume pieces. That was in 1988. By 1992 he was doing the real thing.

Before long he was anonymously designing fine jewels for Chanel, as well as doing his own line, Lorenz Bäumer. Unsurprisingly, given his LV cohort Marc Jacobs, this isn’t a jeweler who feels he needs to play by the rules. “The day I can’t have fun,” he says, laughing, “well, I won’t be here.”

4 Tips To Summer-Proof Your Make-Up

Makeup is meant for your face—but keeping it there gets a lot harder once summer hits. Makeup artist Laura Mercier gave Allure tips about how to stop the stuff from melting when the mercury rises.

Prime. “Primers are lightweight, so you won’t feel the extra layer on your skin, but you will notice that your base and blush last much longer,” says Mercier. After you’ve washed and moisturized your face, smooth on a pea-size drop of oil-free makeup primer (such as Laura Mercier’s Oil-Free Foundation Primer).

Change heavier foundation and powder you use during the winter for lighter products. “Choose formulas that contain silicone, which prevents them from melting when your skin warms,” says Mercier. You can keep makeup looking fresh by applying thin layers. Try Giorgio Armani Beauty Lasting Silk UV Foundation.

Switch your powder blush to a gel or cream. “Sheer creams, liquids, and gels sink into the skin,” says Mercier—they also don’t cake like powder can in the heat. Lancôme Color Design Blush gives a great natural flush that doesn’t fade.

Use waterproof mascara. Panda eyes aren’t cute any time of year, but regular mascara can melt in the heat. Waterproof formulas, on the other hand, stay in place. Maybelline New York Define-A-Lash Waterproof Mascara has a great high-shine finish.
