As a longtime Brooklyn resident, I’ve watched as a great many Manhattan businesses have made their way across the river to open outer-borough branches (Barney’s Co-Op is en route, hurray!) But these days, the reverse happens just as often. One of my personal BK faves, Bed-Stuy’s Miss Jessie’s Salon, throws open its doors on a busy stretch of lower Broadway in Soho this week. Sister owners Miko and Titi Branch have been catering to the curly-haired among us since opening their first salon in 1997. Having a Japanese mother and African-American father meant they were both bequeathed with multi-textured tresses that left many hairdressers befuddled. So they dedicated their salon and Miss Jessie’s line of products—which, adorably, they created with and named after their paternal grandmother—to appeasing the curly masses. And they will continue to do just that at their fancy Soho digs.

On the heels of its latest scandal — allegedly discriminating against new hires based on looks — Jezebel has noticed that American Apparel doesn’t make large sizes for many of its items, such as these disco shorts. They only come in sizes XS, S, and M, which American Apparel says is a size 4 to 6. Several other items, including the pleated schoolgirl skirt, also only come in these sizes. Customers have commented online and asked for bigger sizes.

If you’ve been watching the basketball playoffs (hahahaha … hahaha … haha) and thinking about how bad the courtside fashion is, it’s apparently nothing to what the World Cup has in store for us. Fergie performed at the opening ceremony last night wearing a crusty leotard with giant shoulders by Indian designers Shane and Falguni Peacock. She also wore some supremely scary talons, which she appears to have discarded during the performance. The good thing about those claws, though, is that they distract from how skimpy the front of her leotard is.
